Cleaver Explore Program

Leader: Terra Milburn

This group is for our younger members ages 6-8. We introduce our members to all of the various projects in our current multi club, and focus on the projects that interest our Cleavers. We have monthly workshops that help members learn about the 4-H program in general, as well as help them discover what projects might interest them as they become old enough to be regular club members. We do a variety of workshops including crafts, cooking, communications and take field trips to see what the older members do in their livestock and other hands on projects.

We meet the third Monday of each month at 6:30 at the Anselmo Hall.

Kid's Art Supplies
Crafts

Leader: Pauleen Pritchett

Members along with the project leaders will select the craft projects that they wish to complete based on ability of the members and of course their interest in the project as well.

We feel that it is important that members have as wide as possible a choice in creating projects which they enjoy making and are proud to display, while at the same time learning the basic principles of good design. We also believe that it is important that, no matter what type of project a member undertakes, he or she learns to keep accurate records of his or her accomplishments.

Food

Leader: Roxanne Krysik

Today, with all the choices in the supermarket it is more important than ever to learn to prepare and cook simple, inexpensive, tasty healthy meals and snacks. We are constantly being challenged by the media to purchase instant, high fat, high sugar, low nutrition fast food. Preparing your own food isn’t just better for your body, it’s easier on your budget and it provides you with the opportunity to socialize by sharing food with friends and family.

Photography

Leader: Kim Lane

We are exploring different technical elements of photography such as, depth of field, shutter speeds, and histograms.   Our group is also interested in doing lots of “in the field” photography which will equal lots of shooting time.  The older kids were interested in learning about editing so we will take time to work with the basic elements of Photoshop.  The end product will be a photo that has some basic improvements on core elements that may have been lacking on the original shot.

We meet at different locations depending on the lesson of the month – usually the 3rd Wednesday of the month after school.  We will do some weekend meet ups to allow for on site photo shoots, depending on the weather.

Sewing

Leader: Pauleen Pritchett

Members will examine, by learning to do by doing, the different kinds of fabrics and their fibres and basic sewing techniques required to make garments and a variety of other items.

Members will display their finished sewing projects at the club’s Achievement day or year end wrap up.

Sheep

Leader: Sheila McNaughton

In our Sheep club we have members with Market Lambs, Ewe Lambs, Yearling Ewes and Mature Ewes.  There is also a pen of 3 and Carcass and Flock project as well.  Learn about lamb care, health, nutrition, and all things sheep.  Many of our members raise Market Lambs to sell at our annual Achievement Day in June.  We learn also how to prepare our sheep for the show ring and showmanship.

We meet The 2nd Tuesday at the Blueridge library or location TBA

Vet Sciences

Leader: Dirck Commandeur

The Veterinary Science Project is an opportunity for members to learn more about the Veterinary Field with hands-on learning, practicums, and tours. We meet at our regular club meets and get together with a vet science club in Onoway approximately once a month, to learn more about a lot of different subjects within the Veterinary Field. This project is a great choice for any members considering a future as a Vet, Vet Tech, or Farmer!
